Mexico – Marismas Nacionales

Overview

Marismas Nacionales’ extensive brackish lagoons and 220,000 hectares of mangroves makes it a wetland of international importance. This ecosystem provides important environmental services for the world and its inhabitants, by providing fertile lands, water, fish resources and protection from storms and hurricanes. In order to safeguard all the benefits provided by Marismas Nacionales to its population and the local economy, citizens and government representatives are being invited to define a shared vision for the harmonious use of the territory and its natural resources, which allows for a better organization of the productive sectors and greater investment in the region.
